About Calhoun Channel
Calhoun Channel is a protected inner corridor near Naples, Florida, where a mixed bottom runs from the shallows to about 10 feet of water. Common Snook peak from April through July and Tarpon from March through August, while Gray Snapper peak from May to July. Red Drum peak in September and October, Sheepshead in January through March, and Spanish Mackerel in March–April and again September through November. Along the channel's shallow edges, live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, or live shrimp draws snook and redfish, and paddle tail swimbaits and soft plastic jerkbaits cover the same water on the cast. Over the mixed bottom, bottom fishing with fiddler crabs or live shrimp targets Sheepshead in winter and Gray Snapper through the summer months.
