About Clam Pass 3 Mile Reef
Clam Pass 3 Mile Reef is an artificial reef in Florida's southwest Gulf state waters off Naples, where placed structure holds both bottom-dwelling and pelagic species. Sheepshead stack up on the reef from January through March, and bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, or sand fleas tight to the structure accounts for most of the catch. Gag grouper take over from October through December, responding to live pinfish, live grunts, or live sardines dropped to the bottom, with bucktail jigs and metal jigs working the same rubble. Spanish mackerel move through in March and April and again from September through November, when casting small spoons, jigs, and soft plastics over the reef draws strikes, while cobia and king mackerel also patrol the area. Gray snapper peak from May through July and hold close to the structure, where bottom fishing with live shrimp, cut bait, or live pilchards, often paired with chumming, pulls them out of cover.
