About Dr Pass 4.5 Mile Reef
Dr Pass 4.5 Mile Reef is an artificial reef in Florida Gulf state waters off Naples, part of the Southwest Region's network of placed structure. Sheepshead hold tight to the reef from January through March, and gag grouper peak from October through December. Spanish mackerel run over the site in March and April and again from September through November, while gray snapper move onto the structure from May through July. Bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, or sand fleas works the reef for sheepshead, and live pinfish or live grunts dropped to the bottom target gag grouper holding in the structure. Above the reef, casting small spoons and jigs draws Spanish mackerel, and cobia and king mackerel also patrol the site.
