About Gordon Pass 5 Mile Reef
Gordon Pass 5 Mile Reef is an artificial reef in Florida's Southwest Gulf state waters off Naples, providing hard structure on the open bottom west of Gordon Pass. Sheepshead stack on the reef from January through March, Gag Grouper peak from October through December, and Gray Snapper hold tight to the structure from May through July. Spanish Mackerel run through the area in March and April and again from September through November, while Cobia and King Mackerel also patrol the reef. Bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, or sand fleas works the structure for Sheepshead, and live pinfish or live grunts dropped to the bottom draw Gag Grouper out of the reef. Over the top of the structure, anglers cast small spoons or chum with scaled sardines to bring Spanish Mackerel within range.
