About Gordon Pass 9 Mile Reef
Gordon Pass 9 Mile Reef is an artificial reef in federal Gulf waters off Naples, Florida, where placed structure concentrates bottom-dwelling and pelagic species. Gag Grouper are the headline target, peaking from October through December, and Red Grouper, Red Snapper, and Greater Amberjack hold tight to the reef structure while King Mackerel patrol the water above it. Gag Grouper respond to bottom fishing with live pinfish, live grunts, live sardines, or cut bait dropped directly onto the reef, and anglers also work jigging presentations with bucktail jigs, metal jigs, and soft plastic swimbaits or troll deep-diving plugs along the structure's edges. Gray Snapper peak from May through July and take live shrimp, live pilchards, squid, and cut bait on the bottom. Chumming with frozen chum blocks, cut sardines, or live pilchards draws Gray Snapper up off the reef and into range.
