About Johnson Bay
Johnson Bay is a protected inner bay near Naples, Florida, where a soft mud bottom sits in 5 to 10 feet of water within the Southwest Region of Florida's Gulf state waters. Sheepshead lead the winter action from January through March, overlapping with spotted seatrout, which peak from February through April. Common snook from April through July and tarpon from March through August carry the warmer months, while gray snapper peak from May through July. Red drum take over in September and October, and Spanish mackerel move through in two windows, March through April and September through November. The sheltered mud bottom suits bottom fishing with live shrimp or fiddler crabs for sheepshead and gray snapper, and live bait fishing with live pilchards, pinfish, or live mullet for snook, red drum, and tarpon.
