About Keewaydin 3 Mile Reef
Keewaydin 3 Mile Reef is an artificial reef in the Gulf waters off Naples, Florida, within the Southwest Region of Florida's Gulf state waters. Sheepshead lead the winter season from January through March, Gag Grouper peak from October through December, and Gray Snapper take over from May through July. Spanish Mackerel move through in March and April and again from September through November, and Cobia and King Mackerel also work the reef. Bottom fishing dominates here: anglers drop live shrimp, fiddler crabs, and sand fleas tight to the structure for Sheepshead, and live pinfish or live sardines for Gag Grouper. Above the reef, casting small spoons and jigs targets Spanish Mackerel, while chumming with frozen chum blocks or cut sardines brings Gray Snapper into the bite.
