About Keewaydin Island
Keewaydin Island is a protected sand flat just south of Naples, Florida, where inshore water runs 5 to 10 feet deep along the barrier island's sheltered side. Common Snook peak from April through July and Tarpon from March through August, while Red Drum move onto the flat in September and October. Sheepshead take over from January through March, Gray Snapper peak from May through July, and Spanish Mackerel push through in March and April and again from September through November. Live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, and live shrimp accounts for most snook and redfish, with weedless soft plastics and gold spoons serving as flats fishing options for Red Drum over the open sand. Sheepshead and Gray Snapper respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, and casting small spoons and jigs targets Spanish Mackerel when they move through.
