About Naples Pier Reef
Naples Pier Reef is an artificial reef in the Southwest Region of Florida's Gulf state waters off Naples, where placed structure holds a mix of reef and pelagic species through the year. Sheepshead peak from January through March, Gag Grouper from October through December, and Gray Snapper from May through July, with Cobia and King Mackerel also cruising the reef. Spanish Mackerel run in two windows, March through April and again September through November, and anglers target them by casting small spoons, jigs, and soft plastics over the structure. Bottom fishing is the dominant approach for the reef dwellers: live shrimp, fiddler crabs, and sand fleas for Sheepshead, and live pinfish, live grunts, and live sardines for Gag Grouper. Gray Snapper respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, cut bait, live pilchards, or squid, and chumming with cut sardines draws them up off the reef.
