About New Pass
New Pass is a protected sand-bottom corridor in Naples, Florida, where 10 to 20 feet of water links the inshore bays to the Gulf. Sheepshead lead the winter season from January through March, while spotted seatrout peak from February through April and Spanish mackerel run from March through April and again from September through November. Common snook hold here from April through July, gray snapper peak from May through July, and red drum fill the fall window in September and October. Bottom fishing with live shrimp, fiddler crabs or sand fleas works for sheepshead along the sandy channel, and the same approach with live shrimp or live pilchards takes gray snapper. Live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish or live mullet targets snook and red drum, and casting small spoons and jigs covers passing schools of Spanish mackerel.
