About Santa Lucia Reef

Santa Lucia Reef is an artificial reef in Florida Gulf State Waters off Naples, part of the Southwest Region's network of placed structure. Sheepshead hold tight to the reef from January through March, and anglers target them with bottom fishing using live shrimp, fiddler crabs, sand fleas, oysters and clams, or by jigging small bucktail jigs and jig heads tipped with shrimp. Gag Grouper peak from October through December and respond to bottom fishing with live pinfish, live grunts, live sardines, and cut bait dropped close to the structure. Spanish Mackerel move through in March–April and again September–November, when casting small spoons, jigs, and soft plastics or live bait chumming with scaled sardines and threadfin herring draws them up over the reef, while Cobia and King Mackerel also patrol the area. Gray Snapper take over from May through July, feeding on live shrimp, live pilchards, squid, and cut bait fished on the bottom, with frozen chum blocks and cut sardines pulling them off the structure.
