About South Point
South Point is an outer, exposed sand drop-off off Naples, Florida, where the bottom falls from 5 to 25 feet along the open Gulf edge. Common Snook peak here from April through July, overlapping with Tarpon from March through August and Gray Snapper from May through July. Red Drum move through in September and October, Spanish Mackerel run in March and April and again from September through November, and Sheepshead take over from January through March. Live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, or live mullet works the break for snook and tarpon, while bottom fishing with live shrimp or fiddler crabs targets sheepshead and gray snapper along the deeper sand. Spanish Mackerel respond to casting small spoons and jigs over the drop.
