About Wiggins Island
Wiggins Island is a protected sand flat near Naples, Florida, where inner-bay waters run from 5 to 15 feet deep. Gray Snapper are the primary target here, with peak action from May through July. Bottom fishing is the dominant approach, with live shrimp, cut bait, live pilchards and squid presented on the sand bottom. Chumming with frozen chum blocks, cut sardines or live pilchards draws snapper up off the flat. Backcountry fishing with live shrimp, soft plastic jigs and shrimp-tipped jigheads covers the sheltered edges of the island.
