About Wiggins Pass 9 Mile Reef
Wiggins Pass 9 Mile Reef is an artificial reef in federal Gulf waters off Naples, Florida, where placed structure holds bottom fish and draws pelagic species. Gag Grouper peak here from October through December, and Gray Snapper peak from May through July. Red Snapper, Red Grouper, Greater Amberjack, and King Mackerel also work the reef. For gag, anglers bottom fish the structure with live pinfish, live grunts, live sardines, or cut bait, and also jig with bucktail jigs, metal jigs, and soft plastic swimbaits or troll deep-diving plugs along the reef edges. Gray Snapper respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pilchards, squid, or cut bait, and chumming with frozen chum blocks or cut sardines pulls them up off the structure.
