About Bear Point

Bear Point is an outer-exposed sand drop-off near Panama City, Florida, where the bottom falls from 15 to 60 feet along the Panhandle's Gulf state waters. Spanish Mackerel hold here from March through October, and anglers work the edge by trolling small trolling spoons and diving plugs or by casting metal jigs and gotcha plugs into feeding schools. Gray Snapper peak from May through August and respond to bottom fishing with live pinfish, live shrimp, and cut sardines dropped along the deeper sand. Red Drum move through from August to October, when inshore casting with jigheads with paddle tails, gold spoons, and soft plastic jerkbaits covers the transition from shallow to deep water. In the cooler months, Sheepshead take over from January through March and answer bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and live shrimp, while Common Snook round out the species list at this exposed edge.
