About Buena Vista Point
Buena Vista Point is an exposed sand-bottom drop-off near Panama City, Florida, where the seafloor falls from 15 to 60 feet along the outer edge of the Panhandle's Gulf state waters. Red Drum peak from August through October and respond to inshore casting with soft plastic jerkbaits, jigheads with paddle tails, and gold spoons worked along the ledge. Sheepshead take over from January through March, holding tight to the drop where bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and live shrimp draws steady bites. Gray Snapper run from May through August, and anglers target them on the deeper section of the slope with live pinfish, live shrimp, and cut sardines fished on the bottom. Spanish Mackerel stay active from March through October over the open water above the drop, and trolling small spoons or casting metal jigs and gotcha plugs intercepts them, while Common Snook round out the species mix at the point.
