About Bunkers Cove
Bunkers Cove is a protected inner bay pocket near Panama City, Florida, with a sand bottom running from 5 to 25 feet deep. Red Drum peak from August through October, Sheepshead from January through March, Gray Snapper from May through August, and Spanish Mackerel hold from March through October, with Common Snook rounding out the resident lineup. The sheltered water and soft sand bottom favor bottom fishing, with fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and live shrimp for Sheepshead, and live pinfish, cut sardines, and squid for Gray Snapper. Red Drum respond to inshore casting with soft plastic jerkbaits, jigheads with paddle tails, gold spoons, and topwater plugs worked across the shallower sand flats. Spanish Mackerel move through on the warm-season run, when anglers cast metal jigs, gotcha plugs, and small spoons or troll small trolling spoons and diving plugs along the deeper edges.
