About Callaway Bayou
Callaway Bayou is a protected inner bay near Panama City, Florida, with a soft mud bottom and water running 5 to 10 feet deep. Red Drum peak from August through October, Sheepshead from January through March, Gray Snapper from May through August, and Spanish Mackerel from March through October, and Common Snook also rank among the bayou's target species. Across the mud bottom, inshore casting with soft plastic jerkbaits, jigheads with paddle tails, and gold spoons covers water for Red Drum, while live shrimp and finger mullet serve as supporting baits. Sheepshead and Gray Snapper both respond to bottom fishing, with fiddler crabs and sand fleas taking Sheepshead and live pinfish or cut sardines taking Gray Snapper. Spanish Mackerel fall to casting metal jigs, gotcha plugs, and small spoons through their long spring-to-fall season.
