About Gateway Barge Reef
Gateway Barge Reef is an artificial reef in the Florida Gulf state waters of the Panhandle Region, near Panama City at 29.8372, -85.5810. As its name indicates, the reef centers on a sunken barge that adds hard, vertical relief to the surrounding Gulf bottom. Structure like this concentrates baitfish and gives reef-associated species a fixed point to hold around through the year. Anglers reach it by plotting the published coordinates, since the site sits in open water rather than along a visible shoreline feature. Its position within the Panhandle's network of artificial reefs makes it a natural stop when working the structure off Panama City.
