About Goose Bayou

Goose Bayou is a protected inner bay off Panama City, Florida, where soft mud bottom holds 5 to 10 feet of water sheltered from open Gulf exposure. Red Drum peak here from August through October and respond to inshore casting with soft plastic jerkbaits, paddle-tail jigheads, gold spoons, and topwater plugs worked across the mud flats. Sheepshead take over from January through March, and bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, or sand fleas targets them in the deeper sections of the bayou. Gray Snapper peak from May through August on live pinfish and live shrimp fished on the bottom, while Spanish Mackerel run from March through October and hit small spoons, metal jigs, and gotcha plugs cast into the open water. Common Snook round out the species list in these sheltered shallows.
