About Hathaway-Rubble Reef
Hathaway-Rubble Reef is an artificial reef in Florida's Panhandle state waters off Panama City, at coordinates 30.1592, -85.8936. As its name indicates, the site consists of placed rubble that adds hard structure to the surrounding Gulf bottom. Rubble reefs like this create relief, crevices, and shelter where open seafloor offers little cover, and that structure anchors a localized community of marine life. The reef sits within the Florida Gulf State Waters: Panhandle Region, putting it within the network of nearshore reef sites that Panama City anglers work. Species records and depth data for Hathaway-Rubble Reef are not yet on file, so anglers rely on their own soundings and catches to build a picture of how the reef fishes through the seasons.
