About Liberty Ship-USS Grierson Reef
Liberty Ship-USS Grierson Reef is an artificial reef in the Gulf of Mexico off Panama City, Florida, within the Panhandle Region of Florida's Gulf state waters. The reef takes its name from a Liberty ship, a type of steel cargo vessel built in large numbers during World War II, which places this site among the shipwreck-based structures that line the Panhandle coast. Its position at 29.9849, -85.7066 sets it on open Gulf bottom, where a reef like this stands out as concentrated hard structure on a mostly featureless seafloor. Species records and depth data for the site are not yet on file, so the reef's resident fish and seasonal patterns remain undocumented here. Panama City anglers treat the reef as one of the area's charted artificial structures and locate it by its coordinates.
