About Military Point
Military Point is an outer, exposed drop-off off Panama City, Florida, where a sand bottom falls away through depths of 260 to 660 feet in the Panhandle region of Florida's Gulf state waters. Sheepshead lead the calendar from January through March. Spanish Mackerel hold from March through October, Gray Snapper peak from May through August, and Red Drum take over from August through October, with Common Snook rounding out the species list. Bottom fishing along the edge of the drop-off produces Gray Snapper on live pinfish, live shrimp, cut sardines, and squid, while Sheepshead respond to fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and jig heads tipped with shrimp. Spanish Mackerel are worked by trolling small spoons, planers with spoons, and diving plugs, and Red Drum take cut mullet, cut menhaden, and blue crab halves fished on the sand.
