About Redfish Point
Redfish Point is an exposed sand-bottom drop-off off Panama City, Florida, where depths fall from the shallows to about 35 feet along the outer edge of the Panhandle's Gulf state waters. Red Drum peak here from August through October, and anglers work the break with inshore casting, using paddle-tail jigheads, soft plastic jerkbaits, and gold spoons, or soak cut mullet and blue crab halves on the bottom. Sheepshead take over from January through March, holding along the deeper sand edge, where bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and live shrimp draws steady bites. Gray Snapper run from May through August and respond to live pinfish and live shrimp fished near the bottom, while Spanish Mackerel move through from March to October and fall to small trolling spoons and feather jigs pulled parallel to the drop. Common Snook also hold along the point, rounding out a mixed inshore and nearshore lineup on this open stretch of sand.
