About Town Point
Town Point is an outer, exposed rock drop-off off Panama City in the Panhandle Region of Florida's Gulf state waters, with bottom falling from 260 to 660 feet. The species list includes Common Snook, Red Drum peaking August through October, Sheepshead peaking January through March, Gray Snapper peaking May through August, and Spanish Mackerel running March through October. Along the rock ledge, bottom fishing with live pinfish, live shrimp, cut sardines, or squid is the dominant approach for Gray Snapper, while fiddler crabs, sand fleas, and oysters work the same structure for winter Sheepshead. Red Drum respond to bottom rigs baited with cut mullet, cut menhaden, or blue crab halves on the drop. Spanish Mackerel feed higher in the water column, where trolling small trolling spoons, feather jigs, and diving plugs covers the open water above the ledge.
