About Wilson Point
Wilson Point is an exposed sand-bottom drop-off off Panama City, Florida, where the seafloor falls from 30 to 120 feet in the Panhandle region of the Gulf's state waters. Sheepshead lead the calendar from January through March, and anglers take them with bottom fishing rigs baited with fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or live shrimp. Gray Snapper peak from May through August and hold along the deeper edge of the drop-off, where bottom fishing with live pinfish or cut sardines works alongside chumming and freelining. Spanish Mackerel run from March through October and respond to trolling with small spoons and diving plugs or to casting metal jigs and gotcha plugs along the break. Red Drum peak from August through October, when anglers work the shallower edge with paddle-tail jigheads and gold spoons or soak cut mullet on the bottom, and Common Snook also appear on the target list for the spot.
