About Admiral Fetterman Reef
Admiral Fetterman Reef is an artificial reef in the federal Gulf waters off Pensacola, Florida, where placed structure concentrates bait and draws both pelagic and bottom species. King Mackerel move over the reef from April through October, and slow trolling with live cigar minnows, live menhaden, or live blue runners works the water above the structure. Red Snapper peak from April through August and respond to bottom fishing with cut bait, squid, or live pinfish dropped tight to the reef, while Gray Snapper hold here from May through August and take live shrimp or cut bait on the bottom. Greater Amberjack crowd the structure in April and May, where live bait fishing with live hardtails or vertical jigging with butterfly jigs and speed jigs draws strikes. Gag Grouper take over from October through December, feeding on live pinfish and frozen sardines fished on the bottom, and Red Grouper also hold on the reef.
