About Bayou Grande
Bayou Grande is a protected inner bay off Pensacola, Florida, with soft mud bottom and depths running from 10 to 25 feet. Red Drum peak here from September through October, and anglers work them with inshore casting using gold spoons, jigheads with paddletails, and soft plastic jerkbaits across the mud flats and deeper edges. Sheepshead take over from January through March, when bottom fishing with fiddler crabs, live shrimp, and sand fleas produces steady bites in the sheltered water. Gray Snapper peak from May through August and respond to bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pinfish, and cut bait, while Spanish Mackerel run from April through October and fall to casting with metal jigs, gotcha plugs, and small spoons. Common Snook also hold in the bayou, rounding out a species mix that keeps the water productive across the seasons.
