About East Lap 'Army Tanks' Reef
East Lap Army Tanks Reef is an artificial reef in federal Gulf waters off Pensacola, Florida, holding a mix of bottom and pelagic species around its structure. Red Snapper peak from April through August, Gray Snapper from May through August, and Greater Amberjack in April and May, while Gag Grouper turn on from October through December and Red Grouper also hold on the reef. Bottom fishing with live pinfish, cigar minnows, squid, or cut bait works the structure for snapper and grouper, and vertical jigging with metal jigs or bucktail jigs offers a second approach over the reef. Amberjack respond to live bait fishing with live hardtails, live cigar minnows, or live menhaden dropped near the structure. King Mackerel move through from April through October, and slow trolling live cigar minnows, live blue runners, or live threadfin herring around the reef targets them.
