About Redfish Point
Redfish Point is an exposed rock drop-off in the Florida Gulf State Waters off Pensacola, where the bottom falls away across depths of 260 to 655 feet. Red Drum peak here in September and October, Sheepshead in January through March, Gray Snapper from May through August, and Spanish Mackerel across a long run from April into October, with Common Snook also among the resident targets. The rocky ledge holds Gray Snapper and Sheepshead close to structure, and bottom fishing with live shrimp, cut bait, or fiddler crabs puts baits directly on the rock where these fish feed. Red Drum respond to bottom fishing with cut mullet or cut menhaden along the edge of the drop. Over the open water above the point, trolling small spoons and straw rigs covers ground for roaming schools of Spanish Mackerel.
