STRUCTURE

Outer Exposed

Daisy Bank is an outer-exposed mud flat off Newport, Oregon, sitting in 150 to 190 feet of water on open ground away from hard structure. Pacific halibut are the headline target here, peaking from March through July, while lingcod fishing runs strongest in February and March and Chinook salmon build through the summer from May into September. The bank also holds sablefish, Pacific cod, petrale sole, and Pacific whiting across its soft bottom. Halibut respond to drift fishing over the flat with herring, salmon bellies, octopus, or squid, with metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits working as an alternative through the same depth band. Lingcod come to jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits, and Chinook are worked with trolled cut-plug herring, whole herring, anchovies, or flashers with hoochies across the exposed water.
